Watch: Yudhvir Singh became only the second concussion substitute in the Indian Premier League when he walked out for injured quick Mohsin Khan during Lucknow Super Giants’ clash against Kolkata Knight Riders today (May 5).

Mohsin injured his head while going for a catch of Sunil Narine in the 12th over of the innings and had to walk off the field. On the third ball, Ravi Bishnoi sent down a quicker delivery to Sunil Narine, who looked to slash it on the off-side. He ended up getting a thick edge to third man, where Mohsin was stationed. The pacer put on a full-length dive to his right but could not cling on and instead landed on his face, hurting himself.

A visibly hurt Mohsin was on the ground for a while and had to be escorted back with the help of the medical staff. He had bowled two overs by then, conceding 28.

It was later confirmed that Mohsin would not be able to return to the field due to a concussion. With IPL allowing for substitutes in case of a concussion to a member of the XI, Mohsin was replaced by Yudhvir in the side.

Yudhvir sent down his first ball of this year’s IPL in the 16th over and struck immediately, dismissing Angkrish Raghuvanshi with a back-of-a-length delivery that generated enough bounce to trouble the batter. He departed for a 26-ball 32.

The pacer had played three games in the 2023 IPL, getting three wickets. He bowled his two overs for 24 runs as KKR ended with 235-6 in their 20 overs.

It was the second time that a concussion substitute was used in the IPL, with Vishnu Vinod replacing Ishan Kishan last year during Mumbai Indians’ game with Gujarat Titans.
