Rashid Khan dismissed Jos Buttler for the fifth time in T20s during today’s IPL 2024 match between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans in Jaipur.

Both Rashid and Buttler are considered to be the best in the business in the shortest format of the game. Rashid is second on the list of highest wicket-takers in the history of T20 cricket with more than 550 wickets to his name while Buttler is eighth on the list of highest run-scorers with more than 11,000 runs.

Both have been the stars of their respective teams in the IPL as well. No one has scored more runs at a higher strike rate than Buttler since his debut in IPL (2016), while no one has taken more wickets in the IPL than Rashid since his (2017).

While Buttler and Rashid are world beaters, when it comes to the head-to-head battle between the two, there’s one clear winner.

Rashid has the number over Buttler

They’ve faced up 12 times in T20s, with Rashid having bowled 75 deliveries to the English right-hander. Surprisingly (or not), Buttler has been dismissed five times from those 75 deliveries, having scored only 50 runs at an average of 10. Four of those five dismissals have come in the IPL, while one was in the 2018 Big Bash League.

Just how difficult Buttler has found to negotiate Rashid can be gauged by the fact that from the 75 deliveries he’s faced off him, he has managed to hit only one boundary. In the IPL, the boundary count drops to zero. In fact, Rashid is the only bowler who has bowled more than 10 balls to Buttler (50) in the IPL without conceding a single boundary.

Three of Buttler’s five dismissals against Rashid have been bowled, while two have been caught, including a catch at slip during the IPL 2024 match between RR and GT today (April 10).

Only Bhuvneshwar Kumar has dismissed him more times in T20 cricket (six), while no other bowler has shattered his stumps more than Rashid. In the IPL, no bowler other than Rashid has dismissed him more than twice. From Rashid’s point of view, he has dismissed only Babar Azam, Lorcan Tucker, Ryan Burl, and Chris Gayle more (six) times than Buttler in his T20 career.
