A day after coming under the scanner for his animated celebration following the controversial dismissal of Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson, Delhi Capitals owner Parth Jindal has spoken up about the incident.

Samson played a useful hand of 86 in 46 deliveries during the 2024 Indian Premier League clash on Tuesday (May 7) but his innings ended in controversial circumstances following a boundary catch by Shai Hope. The West Indian balanced himself precariously while completing the catch but the TV replays failed to show whether his foot had briefly touched the ropes, leading to a lengthy conversation between Samson and the umpire.

After it was confirmed that Samson was out, the cameras pointed towards one of the Delhi Capitals owner, Jindal, who is also the director of JSW Sports. Jindal gestured aggressively while mouthing ‘Out’ while Samson and the umpires were talking.

After facing flak for his behaviour, Delhi Capitals posted a video of Jindal talking to Samson following the game in the company of Royals owner Manoj Badale.

On a closed social media post, Delhi Capitals wrote: “Our Chairman and Co-owner, Parth Jindal, caught up with Rajasthan Royals’ captain Sanju Samson & owner Manoj Badale, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium last night, after what was an exceptional contest of cricket. Parth also extended his congratulations to the RR skipper on being selected for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.”

Replying to the video, Jindal said that Samson’s innings in the Rajasthan run chase of 222 got him “extremely worried”, which is why he reacted the way he did during his dismissal.

“Was lovely interacting with Manoj and Sanju – was incredible to witness his power hitting at the Kotla – he got us all extremely worried and hence the animated reaction when he was out! Had the pleasure of congratulating him as well. Great win by our boys!”

Rajasthan ended 20 runs short of the target, with Samson’s wicket proving to be the game-changer. Rajasthan, who were 162-3 in 15.3 overs could only make 39 more runs as they lost their second successive game.
