Watch: Mayank Yadav, who clocked 155.8 kph (96.8 mph) on his IPL debut for Lucknow Super Giants against Punjab Kings, ended with 3-27 today (March 30) in a brilliant display of fast bowling.

The 21-year-old Mayank, who was bought by LSG in the IPL 2022 mega-auction, made his debut against PBKS and impressed with a 150kph ball in his first over. An over later, he bowled a 155.8kph ball to Shikhar Dhawan and picked up his first IPL wicket soon after.

Punjab, chasing 200 for a win, got off to a fine start, reaching 102 in 11.3 overs with Jonny Bairstow scoring 42 in 28 and Dhawan making a fifty. Bairstow was the first to depart, falling to Mayank on the fourth ball of the 12th over. The quick sent down a shorter ball on the middle and leg stump and the batter looked to go for a pull. He ended up miscuing it to deep mid-wicket as Mayank got his first success in the IPL.

Punjab’s innings went downhill thereafter, as they lost their next four wickets within three overs, with Mayank striking twice in succession.

He dismissed Prabhsimran Singh in his third over of the innings with yet another short ball. Prabhsimran seemed hurried by pace and only managed a top edge to mid-on. Jitesh Sharma was out in the next over in a similar manner: Mayank banged in short yet again, the batter got a top edge to mid-wicket where Naveen-ul-Haq, who also caught Prabhsimran, held on.

Punjab eventually were restricted to 178-5 in 20 overs and lost their second game in a row. Mayank also won the Player of the Match for his efforts.
