Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore side have now lost two out of three in the 2018 IPL, but RCB fans did have something to cheer as their skipper became the tournament’s leading run-scorer.
The India captain went past countryman Suresh Raina during RCB’s defeat to Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. He needed just 31 runs to match Raina’s 4,558 so far and Kohli’s superb 62-ball 92 did the job amply.
It wasn’t quite enough to give RCB the victory, though, despite its brilliance. Bangalore fell 46 runs short of a mammoth 213-run Mumbai total dominated by Man of the Match Rohit Sharma, who hit 94 off 52 with five sixes and 10 fours. Sharma, batting at No.4 but in third ball of the match after a double strike by Umesh Yadav, was ably supported by West Indian opener Evin Lewis, who hit 65 from 42 balls.

Kohli promoted himself to open the innings in place of Brendon McCullum and set about a one-man attempt on the target, hitting four sixes and seven fours. But Quinton de Kock was RCB’s next highest scorer with 19.
Raina did not play Chennai Super Kings’ last match against Kolkata Knight Riders due to injury, having made 4 and 14 in the first two matches of the campaign.
