The auction ahead of the 2019 IPL will be held in Jaipur on December 18. There are a maximum of 70 spots up for grabs, of which 20 can be overseas picks.
Having earlier released 11 players, Kings XI Punjab will have the most available money to work with. Having released big names like Aaron Finch and Yuvraj Singh among others, KXIP will have a big budget of Rs 36.20 crore at their disposal.
Delhi Daredevils too have a big purse of Rs 25.5 crore to work with after having released Jason Roy, Gautam Gambhir, Glenn Maxwell, Liam Plunkett and Mohammed Shami, among others.
Kolkata Knight Riders will likely look to bolster their fast-bowling stocks after having released Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Johnson and Tom Curran, and Royal Challengers Bangalore – who released big names like Quinton de Kock, Brendon McCullum and Chris Woakes – might also look to add depth in the bowling department after faltering in that area in past editions.
On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals will want to bring in some batsmen to partner with the likes of Jos Buttler and Steve Smith. Apart from Buttler, no batsman really stood out for them in the 2018 season.
Champions of the 2018 edition, Chennai Super Kings, will probably have the least restoration work to do as they released just three players in Mark Wood, Kanishk Seth and Kshitiz Sharma, and seem formidable in every department.
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians also have relatively fewer slots to fill, and don’t have very big margins left either.
The auction is expected to be a relatively quick affair with just one day being scheduled for it.
