Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has revealed he received ample support under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly, the kind he did not enjoy as much when he played under MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
During his 17-year-long international career, Yuvraj played under four full-time captains, starting as a newbie under Sourav Ganguly, and evolving into a potent white-ball player under Rahul Dravid and Dhoni. Towards the twilight of his career, he got a taste of Kohli’s captaincy as well.
“I have played under Sourav [Ganguly] and had a lot of support from him,” Yuvraj was quoted as saying by Sportstar. “I have more memories of time under Sourav because of the support he gave me. I didn’t have that kind of support from Mahi [MS Dhoni] and Virat [Kohli].”
“The highest score by an India No. 4 at the World Cup was 48. I don’t really understand that."

Both Yuvraj and Ganguly have never fallen short of expressing mutual admiration for each other, right since the time Yuvraj debuted as an 18-year-old in 2000, and showed tremendous potential straightaway.
Recalling the early stages of his career, Yuvraj noted how being reprimanded by his seniors helped him realise his mistakes and improve quickly. “I was scolded a lot,” he said. “From Rahul [Dravid]. From Venky [Venkatesh Prasad]. I and Kaif were scolded so much on the field by Kumble, but we accepted it, learnt and improved.

“This Indian team needs a good guy who can talk to them on matters off the field. Their off-the-field issues reflect on their on-field performances.
“What they need is a psychologist of authority who can guide them in personal issues. Make them better persons. We had Paddy Upton, who would discuss other issues of life, like fear of failure, and it helped us so much. The team probably needs someone like him.”
