Twenty-year-old Finlay Bean has become the first batter to hit a quadruple century in Second XI Championship cricket, finishing on 441 for Yorkshire Second XI against Nottinghamshire.
Opening the batting, Bean finished day three of the fixture unbeaten on 365, surpassing Marcus Trescothick’s 322 for Somerset Second XI in 1997, the previous best by a batter in Second XI Championship cricket.
On day four, Bean crossed 400 and was eventually dismissed by Calvin Harrison as Yorkshire declared on a gargantuan score of 814-7, claiming a lead of 280 after Notts had put up 534 in their first innings.
Bean’s 518-ball innings included 52 fours and three sixes.
He played age-group cricket for Yorkshire and represented England under-19s in 2019, before turning down an academy deal at Headingley in 2020. He is not currently contracted by Yorkshire and plays club cricket for York.
Bean’s only previous Second XI County Championship fixture this season came for Warwickshire against Lancashire earlier this month, when he hit scores of 6 and 30.
