With the conclusion of the fourth Australia-India Test, India have claimed the top position in the ICC World Test Championship 2019-2021 standings, and Australia have slipped to No.3.
India’s victory in the final session in Brisbane and the 2-1 series result also meant that India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, having won the previous edition in 2018/19 as well.
With the win, India moved from second position to the top of the table in the World Test Championship, having now won two out of their last three Tests (Melbourne and Brisbane).
For a four-match series, each Test win gives 30 points, while a tie and draw lead to 15 and 10 points respectively. Their position in the table is determined by their PCT (Percentage of points), which is obtained by points earned/points available. India now have a PCT of 71.66 per cent and 430 points from 13 Tests, having on nine out of them.
New Zealand ended as the unlikely beneficiary of the Australia-India series, with the result in the fourth Test helping them move over Australia in the table to the second spot, with a PCT of 70 per cent, and a total of 420 points.
Before the fifth day came to a close in Brisbane, Australia, India and New Zealand occupied the first three positions respectively, followed by England, who won the Galle Test against Sri Lanka.
Overall, nine teams in the World Test Championship are set to feature in a total of 27 series, with the final scheduled to be played in August 2021.
