India will look to keep their net run rate healthy in their T20 World Cup clash against Australia

India will play Australia tomorrow (October 13) in the marquee clash of Group A. Here's the updated points standings from both groups ahead of the fixture.

India's loss in their opening match of the tournament against New Zealand put them on the back foot in terms of semi-final qualification. Their less than convincing chase against Pakistan in their following match also limited their chances of increasing their NRR, which they will likely need to rely on in order to reach the knockouts. However, India did record their biggest ever win in a women's T20 World Cup against Sri Lanka to give their NRR a significant boost.

Having played three matches, the same as Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan in Group A, India sit second in the table ahead of the Australia match. They are equal on points with New Zealand, with an NRR of +0.576 compared to the White Ferns' +0.282. However, New Zealand have already played Australia and lost, and only have Pakistan left to play. If New Zealand beat Pakistan and India lose to Australia, India will be eliminated.

While India's best chance of semi-final qualification is to beat Australia, they will also have their NRR to think about. They will have to make sure they beat Australia by a big enough margin to stay ahead of New Zealand if they beat Pakistan. If India lose to Australia and New Zealand lose to Pakistan, India will have to lose by a small enough margin to stay ahead of New Zealand.
