England racked up 250-3, the highest ever women’s T20I score, on a remarkable day that saw South Africa concede a total of 476 runs in 40 overs.
Following on from England’s men, who broke the record for the highest men’s ODI total against Australia on Tuesday, England Women smashed the record for the highest women’s T20I score, a record of 216 set by New Zealand earlier on the same day, and which stood for less than six hours. England eventually won by 121 runs.
Tammy Beaumont hit the second-fastest century in women’s T20 internationals, with 96 of her 47-ball 116 coming in boundaries.

Danni Wyatt made 56 out of England’s opening stand of 147, while Nat Sciver and Katherine Brunt continued the carnage, hitting 33 off 15 and 42 off 16 respectively.
Earlier, Suzie Bates had been the cornerstone of New Zealand’s assault, hitting an unbeaten 124 off 66 balls to inspire a 66-run win on a brutal day for Dane van Niekerk’s Proteas.
