The 2022 Women’s T20 Asia Cup will begin on October 1 — here is the squad and full team list of Bangladesh Women for the tournament.
India had won the first six editions of the Women’s Asia Cup. Then, in 2018, Bangladesh ended India’s streak by defeating them in a last-ball thriller of a final. Bangladesh will now host the eighth edition of the tournament (the fourth in Twenty20 Internationals format) across two venues in Sylhet. This edition will also feature India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates. After a round-robin league, the top four teams will meet in the semi-finals, followed by the final.
Bangladesh Women did not feature in the first three editions, in 2004, 2005/06 and 2006. They finished behind India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka in 2008 and 2016, and lost the semi-final to Pakistan in 2012. Then, in 2018, they famously turned things around despite being bowled out for 63 against Sri Lanka. They beat Pakistan, India, Thailand, and Malaysia, and India again in the final to lift their maiden trophy.
Bangladesh have an 8-1 record this year, but none of their matches has been against the top four sides – Australia, England, New Zealand or India. In the Commonwealth Games Qualifiers in Kuala Lumpur in January, they beat Malaysia, Kenya, and Scotland easily but lost to Sri Lanka. And they won all five matches in the T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Abu Dhabi earlier this year, against Ireland, Scotland, the USA, Thailand, and Zimbabwe.
