Simon Jones, speaking on the Broken Trophy podcast, reminisced about the time when England played Wales in a friendly, and he was the 12th man for the English side.
Jones, born in Swansea, rose through the ranks to play Test cricket for England, never representing Wales.
“Wales played against England a few times in friendlies. So for England, it was an opportunity to use it as a warm-up for the series they were playing in. The weird thing was I never ever made it to the Wales squad,” he said.

The former Glamorgan speedster revealed how Welsh fans didn’t give him a moment of peace whenever he ran out with drinks during the friendly encounter. “I was with England and I remember that I didn’t play in the game (against Wales) but I was the 12th man.
“The amount of abuse I got from the Welsh fans. They were calling me Judas and all sorts whenever I was running on, getting the drinks on. My opinion was, you didn’t select me so what do you want me to do?”
Jones’s international career was cut short by injuries and he could make only 18 Test appearances for England between 2002 and 2005 where he picked a total of 59 wickets.
