West Indies players will wear the Black Lives Matter logo on their shirt collars during the upcoming Test series in England, similar to the emblem on the shirts of all footballers who are currently featuring in the Premier League.
The ICC gave a go-ahead for the logo to be worn during the Test series – the emblem has been designed by Alisha Hosannah, the partner of Watford captain Troy Deeney.
The Premier League, which restarted earlier this month, agreed to replace player names from the back of their shirts with “Black Lives Matter”, along with a logo on their arm, for the first 12 matches after the resumption of the season.

On Sunday, Jason Holder, the West Indies captain, said that the team is conscious of the “fight and justice for equality”.
“This is a pivotal moment in history for sports, for the game of cricket and for the West Indies cricket team,” Holder said. “We have come to England to retain the Wisden Trophy but we are very conscious of happenings around the world and the fight for justice and equality.
“We did not take our decision lightly. We know what it is for people to make judgments because of the colour of our skin, so we know what it feels like, this goes beyond the boundary. There must be equality and there must be unity. Until we get that as people, we cannot stop.

“We have to find some way to have equal rights and people must not be viewed differently because of the colour of their skin or ethnic background.”
West Indies are set to wear the shirts during the four-day warm-up match between Holder’s XI and Brathwaite’s XI starting Monday, at the Emirates Old Trafford. The series begins with the first Test on July 8.
