The Super50 Cup, West Indies’ domestic one-day competition, was without a winner as both finalists forfeited the clash.

The final, scheduled for November 23, would have seen Barbados and Jamaica battle it out in the summit clash in Tarouba. The lead-up to the final was affected by rain, which eventually reduced the contest to a 20-overs-a-side game. However, both teams decided not to walk out for the toss, suggesting concerns over the safety of their players, which resulted in the trophy going unawarded.

The match was to begin at 1 pm local time but the start was postponed indefinitely due to scattered showers that began around noon.

The match officials then informed the sides that a 20-over game could be played by 6.17 pm, the latest possible start time. At around 5.45 pm, the two teams were told that the match would begin at 6.17 pm and that the toss would be held at 6 pm.

A detailed statement from Cricket West Indies elaborated on the incident further: “Despite assurances from the umpires and match referee that the conditions were safe for play, both captains failed to be present for the toss, allowing time to elapse past the latest starting point. As a result, both teams failed to take the field, effectively refusing to play. This resulted in a double forfeit, with no champion being declared.”

According to the playing conditions of the Super50, if no play was possible in the final only due to a tie, no result or abandonment, both teams would be declared the co-winners of the tournament. However, with no team showing up in this instance, it was effectively a forfeiture, which resulted in the tournament being awarded to no side.

This year’s winners would have received USD 100,000, with the runners-up getting USD 50,000. However, the amount was not awarded to any side either.
