Toronto Nationals won the toss and elected to field in a game that was reduced to a six-over contest after the start was delayed due to a wet outfield. After a relatively quiet over of nine runs first up, the Tigers batters cut loose, scoring 66 off the next four overs.

By the end of the fifth over, they had reached 75-1 and were threatening to get close to the 100-mark. Zaman had bowled the third over of the innings, conceding 18, including two sixes and three wides, but was the one tasked to bowl the final over of the innings as well.

Known for his accuracy with yorkers, Zaman backed his strengths and delivered a near-perfect over where the Montreal batters could do nothing but either squeeze the yorkers out or miss them.

Chris Lynn drove the second ball down the ground for a single, and that remained the only run that came off the bat in the over. In fact, that was the only ball where the batters were able to connect as they were beaten off the other five.

Lynn and Sherfane Rutherford ran a bye of the fifth ball, but Rutherford was run out while attempting another off the last. Montreal finished on 77-2.

Toronto would have hoped to carry forward the momentum they gained in the last over of the first innings into their chase. It did not happen, though: the Toronto batters could not match the asking rate and eventually fell well short of the target by 23 runs.
