India’s debutant off-spinner Washington Sundar bowled a cracking delivery to Cameron Green that turned the other way to hit the outside edge and crash into the stumps.
“It almost went the other way” – the commentator on air said, more in wonderment, as Cameron Green stood bewildered after watching his stumps disturbed by Sundar in the first session of day two at the Gabba. At first glance, it seemed like Sundar, who is known to pretty much deliver the stock ball and a straighter variation, had brought out the latter to dismiss Green.
A closer look at the slow motion replay of the dismissal confirmed that the ball had indeed turned a bit the other way. “Oh, that definitely turned the other way,” the commentator confirmed later.
CricViz, the data analytics firm, later confirmed that the delivery had indeed turned 0.1 degrees away from Green.

Marnus Labuschagne had talked about cracks opening up in the Gabba wicket after day one and it seemed like this delivery from Sundar had hit one to graze Green’s edge and hit the stumps.
“It feels like a Gabba day two-and-a-half pitch when we started. The cracks are opening up on day one, which is something I have not seen in Shield cricket here,” Labuschagne had said.
