Watch: Trent Boult smashed a huge six off the last ball to take his side Northern Brave to a thrilling one-wicket win over Canterbury Kings during a Super Smash game at Mount Maunganui.
Boult’s day had started well, taking 2-21 to reduce Canterbury Kings to 107 all out. Chasing 108 for a win on Thursday, Northern Brave got off to a decent start, reaching 46-0 in 4.5 overs. However, the side went on to collapse dramatically, slipping to 48-2, and then from 78-2 to 83-5. However, with eight balls left, 10 runs needed, and five wickets in hand, the game should have been in the bag. And then the game got crazy.
Northern Brave lost four wickets for three runs in six balls, reduced to 101-9, needing seven runs in two balls with one wicket in hand. Walking in was opening bat Katene Clarke, who had earlier smashed a four and four sixes in five consecutive balls before retiring hurt on 31* off 11. He could only manage a single, however, leaving local lad Trent Boult to get a maximum off the last ball.
With pressure building from all corners, Nuttall dropped it in the slot, which allowed Boult to tee off and smash a huge six over mid-wicket for an unbelievable win, leaving the on-air commentators in disbelief as they screamed, “Trent Boult! I’m losing my mind!”
