Quinton de Kock’s run out of Fakhar Zaman with a possible false signal to deceive the batsman gained attention for treading close to the fake fielding law. Before the law was established, though, Miandad produced an effort that might potentially count as a fake fielding violation in today’s world, if not spark a row about it at the very least.
In this game from 1993, Andrew Jones digs out a yorker from Waqar Younis to square leg. The batsmen ponder a quick single as Adam Parore races out at the non-striker’s end even as Jones takes a couple of steps outside. Miandad, stationed there, feigned throwing the ball at the non-striker’s end but instead throws it to the other end, nearly catching Jones off guard.
