Before the law was established, though, Miandad produced an effort that might potentially count as a fake fielding violation in today’s world, if not spark a row about it at the very least.
In this game from 1993, Andrew Jones digs out a yorker from Waqar Younis to square leg. The batsmen ponder a quick single as Adam Parore races out at the non-striker’s end even as Jones takes a couple of steps outside. Miandad, stationed there, feigned throwing the ball at the non-striker’s end but instead throws it to the other end, nearly catching Jones off guard.
