Having put up 202 on board, India sent back Sam Billings for a duck in the second over with Chahal dismissing the opener. One ball after the dismissal, India had the opportunity to take one more wicket. Joe Root, at No.3, miscued Chahal to the cover fielder and Jason Roy at the non-striker’s end took off for a non-existent single.
The fielder passed the ball to Chahal at the non-striker’s end, where all the bowler had to do was disturb the stumps to dismiss Roy. Instead, Chahal, seemingly unaware of where the batsmen were, threw the ball to Dhoni, the wicketkeeper. Amidst the confusion, Roy returned to the non-striker’s end and both batsmen were safe.
A visibly frustrated Dhoni was seen shouting at Chahal immediately.
All said and done, Chahal led England’s rout in the T20I, picking up a career-best haul of 6-25 in the match to help India win by 75 runs.
