Watch: Suresh Raina might have retired from top-flight cricket, but his trademark agility on the field is still very much intact.
Playing for India Legends in the Road Safety World Series, a 20-over tournament featuring retired players, Raina took fans through a wave of nostalgia with his fielding efforts. He pulled off an incredible diving catch of Australia Legends’ Ben Dunk in the semi-final of the 2022 edition.
Stationed at backward point, a position he often used to occupy during his time with the India team, Raina was quick to respond when Dunk sent a low full-toss off Abhimanyu Mithun to his left, in the 16th over of the innings. Now 35, Raina leapt full stretch, holding on to a diving catch reminiscent of the late 2000s, a time when he established himself as one of the finest young fielders of his generation.
Raina played 322 internationals for India from 2005 to 2018, developing into a reliable middle-order batter in limited-overs cricket. He retired from international cricket in 2020, but continued to play in the IPL until last year, before calling it quits from all forms of Indian domestic cricket this month.
