Steven Finn is “fit and firing” ahead of the start of the county season, according to Middlesex head coach Stuart Law.
The fast bowler, who last represented England in 2017, featured in just four County Championship matches last year, as a knee injury hampered his season.
Finn is available for selection ahead of Middlesex’s opening Championship fixture against Northamptonshire on Friday, alongside Toby Roland-Jones, whose 2018 campaign ended in April due to a stress fracture in his back.
Speaking to Adam Collins on The Final Word, Law – who enjoyed stints as a player with Essex, Lancashire and Derbyshire – said of Finn: “I remember facing him and he was like Curtly Ambrose – he bowled fast and on a length that you couldn’t get forward to or go back to.
“For some reason, I think he tried to start swinging the ball. We’ve got him away from that; we’ve got him bowling on that hard length as fast as he can and if it moves slightly away he’s in play, and if it doesn’t – he’s still in the game.”

On the return of Roland-Jones, Law said: “He’s looking very good. He played against Oxford University; he had a good hit out against Hampshire out at Hampshire a couple of weeks ago as well. He’s fit and firing, ready to go – pulled up really after those two games. It looks like he’s ripe for selection come Friday.
“To have him back in the side is outstanding. He’s a champion bloke.”
