Watch: Stuart Broad sent a Trent Boult delivery down the ground for six in a hard-hitting cameo on day three of the third Test between England and New Zealand at Headingley.
Broad came into bat after Jamie Overton fell for 97 in his maiden Test innings, and the No.9 took control in a quickfire 55-run stand with Jonny Bairstow.
After facing seven dot balls, Broad smashed 14 off three Boult deliveries, finishing the sequence with a mighty hit back over the bowler’s head for a six.
Broad’s destructive 36-ball innings featured six fours and two sixes, and he looked set to hit his first Test half-century in two years. But Tim Southee intervened to end Broad’s knock on 42, bowling the left-hander with the last ball of the 65th over.
England were eventually bowled out for 360, finishing with a lead of 31. Bairstow’s 162 was his second highest score in Test cricket, with his 150 the second-fastest by an Englishman in Test cricket.
At lunch on day three, England were 13-0.
