Reeza Hendricks took a brilliantly judged boundary catch to briefly give South Africa hope in the second T20I against England, though the tourists still emerged victorious.
Dawid Malan played the anchor role in England’s chase of 147, starting slowly before accelerating, reaching his eighth T20I fifty with a six down the ground. He looked to go big again the next ball, and seemingly got enough on it, only for Hendricks to jump and catch the ball, releasing it before leaving the field of play, and then returning to claim the catch.
“It’s brilliant isn’t it?” said Michael Atherton on air. “It’s not the first time we’ve seen it, clearly. It’s almost run of the mill now in T20. But it’s still staggering I think. The presence of mind, the coordination, the athleticism, a wonderful piece of fielding from Reeza Hendricks.”
The spectacular feat briefly gave South Africa hope, with England left needing a run a ball from the last 13 balls. Eventually the tourists squeezed home off the penultimate ball, but it was Hendricks’ catch, which you can watch below, that was the main talking point after the game.
