Watch: Seekkuge Prasanna smashed a record-breaking unbeaten 32 in six balls with five sixes and a two to give his team Colombo Stars a thrilling win from nowhere over Kandy Warriors in the Lanka Premier League.
Chasing 147, Colombo Stars were seemingly out of contention at 110-5, withe more were needed off the last 13 deliveries. Seekkuge Prasanna, who walked in after Dinesh Chandimal’s dismissal, started off aggressively, hitting the first ball that he faced for a huge six over deep mid-wicket.
It got the equation down to 31 needed off the last two overs, with Binura Fernando sending down the 19th over of the innings. Sherfane Rutherford faced the first four balls of the over, before giving the strike to Prasanna, who struck a huge six off the penultimate ball before taking two. It meant that Rutherford was on strike for the last over of the innings, with 16 runs requried.
The West Indies cricketer did well to take a single off the first ball of the 20th, bowled by Lahiru Kumara, giving Prasanna five balls to get 15. He needed only three deliveries to finish the game, hitting three successive sixes to end on 32* off just six deliveries. His strike rate of 533.33 is now the best in a T20 innings among batters who have scored at least 20 runs in a game.
Prasanna has been a bit-part player for Sri Lanka over the past decade, making 61 appearances across formats since 2011. At 36 years old, this was a cameo to prove there’s life in his career yet.
