Blewett, who played 46 Tests for Australia, was a nippy medium pacer who occasionally rolled his arm over, often crossing speeds of 130 kph. He took only 14 wickets in his career, but dismissed Ganguly twice, one of which was during the Boxing Day Test of 1999.
India were in a spot of bother chasing a mammoth 376, having lost two wickets inside 100 runs, with one one of the openers retired hurt. Ganguly, batting at five, had ambled along to 17 off 38 balls when a Blewett delivery brought a stop to his innings.
The seemingly innocuous delivery was angled towards the off stump, leaving the left-handed batsman, who was renowned for his off-side play. But the shot that came in response was a loose waft, which took the inside half of the bat and smashed the stumps.
Ganguly stood aghast, staring into space while the Australians converged to celebrate. Perhaps, he wasn’t expecting a delivery clocked at 135 kph from a part-timer, who managed to sneak one through the gate. He stood at his spot for a good 10-12 seconds before finally leaving the pitch.
The dismissal kicked off a collapse, with India losing their next seven wickets for just 85 runs, succumbing to a 180-run defeat.
