Watch: India’s bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar, who scored a gritty 62 on debut in the Australia-India Brisbane Test, stood out for his exceptional strokeplay on day three of the game, particularly a no-look six off Nathan Lyon.
Sundar, who walked in at No.7, showed tremendous composure to keep the Australian attack at bay, combining with Shardul Thakur for a 123-run stand for the seventh wicket.
Along the way, he essayed an exhibition of classy strokes, including a cover drive off Mitchell Starc that would have made top-order batsmen proud.
After Thakur fell with the score on 309, Sundar decided to collect a few quick runs, targeting spinner Nathan Lyon, who eventually ended with just the one wicket in 28 overs.
Off the final delivery of the 104th over, Sundar nonchalantly sat on one knee and smashed Lyon to cow corner, keeping his head down as he made contact and sent the ball flying. The manner of the shot was instantly compared to Andre Fletcher’s now trademark no-look strokes from the ongoing Big Bash League. Others drew comparisons with MS Dhoni, Sundar’s former IPL captain, who also hit a no-look six in an ODI in 2009.
After staying in the middle for 144 deliveries, Sundar was finally dismissed by Starc, but the six remained one of the highlights of India’s dogged resistance on day three.
That's spicy! A no-look six from Sundar 6️⃣
