Watch: During the ILT20 clash between the Desert Vipers and MI Emirates, a couple of fans standing on the highway near the stadium were lucky enough to get their hands on the match ball. One kept it as a souvenir, while the other threw it back into the stadium.
The first of these happened in the 18th over. MI Emirates had set a strong foundation and were targeting a score well in excess of 200. Matheesha Pathirana was tasked with bowling the over, while MI Emirates debutant Dan Mousley was on strike.
The third ball of the over landed in the slot, on middle and leg stump. Mousley picked up the length early, walked across the stumps, and shovelled the ball over the deep square leg fence.
As the ball hit the top of the roof and bounced away onto the adjoining highway, a fan collected it and kept it with him as a souvenir. In fact, he even had time to show it off to a person who was passing by on a car.
The second incident took place on the third ball of the 19th over, when Tom Curran bowled a short delivery outside off stump. Kieron Pollard stood back in his crease and clattered it at 104 metres.
The ball again landed on the highway, although this time, the fan picked it up and threw it back into the ground. MI Emirates, courtesy of their belligerence with the bat, thumped the Vipers by 157 runs and consolidated third spot on the points table.
