Playing for the Mohammedan Sporting Club, Shakib’s appeal for an lbw against Mushfiqur Rahim of Abaha was turned down, which caused the left-hander to charge towards the umpire in anger before kicking the stumps angrily with his left foot. Shakib was later seen in a heated altercation with the on-field umpire as his teammates converged around him.
The 34-year old was at it yet again a few overs later after the umpire signalled the ground staff to cover the main pitch with rain pelting down in the sixth over of the second innings. Mohammaden, who had restricted Abaha to 31-3 in 5.5 overs, were in the driver’s seat before rain came after they managed 145-6 in their 20 overs.
Shakib, clearly unhappy with the decision to halt play, was infuriated yet again as he proceeded to rip the stumps out of the ground with his hands before throwing them down on the ground whilst engaging in another heated war of words with the umpire.
This is not the first time that the Bangladesh all-rounder has been in hot water for breaking the stumps during a game. In 2016, during an Asia Cup game against Pakistan, Shakib smashed the stumps with his bat after being dismissed by Mohammad Amir in the 18th over of the second innings.
