In a rain-affected clash, Afridi walked out to bat at 102-2 in the 11th over, with 25 deliveries left in the innings. He wasted no time in taking on the bowlers, smashing a six off Junaid Siddique on just the fourth ball that he faced.

Afridi did not score a single run on the next four balls and was batting on 9 off eight at one stage. He scored 14 off the next three balls, hitting three successive boundaries, including a maximum, off Nawab Singh.

The third ball of the penultimate over was a four before Afridi proceeded to hit a six and then another four from the next two. Nawab, under pressure, sent down a wide thereafter but had the last laugh when he got Afridi off the re-bowled delivery. His innings came at a strike rate of 191.67.

Afridi last played a game for Pakistan in 2016 during the T20 World Cup in India. He was named the interim chief selector of the Pakistan men’s national team in December 2022.

Toronto went on to win the game by nine runs.
