Watch: Nottinghamshire’s Shaheen Afridi shone with the bat against Worcestershire in a T20 Blast clash on Friday (June 3), hitting Michael Bracewell for four sixes in an over to inject life into what was eventually a one-sided clash.
Shaheen conceded 1-45 with the ball in the first innings, as Worcestershire piled on a mammoth 226-5 on the board. In reply, Nottinghamshire got off to an aggressive start, making 58 in 4.5 overs, but were soon reduced to 126-7 in the 14th over, when Shaheen walked out to bat.
He got going with a four on just the second ball that he faced, before taking on New Zealand’s Bracewell in the 16th over. The first ball of the over was dispatched for a maximum over mid-wicket; the Pakistan quick proceeded to hit three more sixes, including smashing the last ball straight down the ground.
Bracewell also sent down two wides in the over to concede 26 runs, as Shaheen moved to 29 off eight.

Shaheen’s batting has made rapid improvements this year, as he emerges as a useful pinch-hitter down the order, hitting 17 maximums in 2023. In the first five years of his career, from 2018, Shaheen had just nine maximums, including five in 2022.
