Watch: Kevin Pietersen was involved in an impressive relay-catch during the Legends League Cricket final between World Giants and Asia Lions.
Forty-one-year-old Pietersen displayed his athletic skills on Saturday when he made a brilliant save inches from the boundary rope during the LLC final. During the 12th over of the Lions innings, Asghar Afghan launched a delivery from Albie Morkel high into the air, but Pietersen managed to grab the ball inside the playing field. He seemed to be slipping over the ropes, but before falling back he had the presence of mind to throw the ball back in to a waiting Darren Sammy, who completed the relay catch.
The former England cricketer took to Twitter to post a video of the incident, calling himself the “screaming eagle”. “I couldn’t catch a cold when I played but now in my 40s?!?! Screaming Eagle,” tweeted Pietersen.
Earlier, the England cricketer also contributed with the bat, scoring 48 in only 22 balls to set the tone for the innings. World Giants ended with 256-5 in their 20 overs, with Corey Anderson top-scoring with a 43-ball 94. Asia Lions ended up 25 runs short as World Giants won the tournament.
