Watch: West Indies continued to slide further away from a spot in the 2023 World Cup, after a top-order implosion against Scotland in the Qualifier Super Six game in Harare, losing their first four wickets for 30 runs.

Johnson Charles and Shamarh Brooks both fell for ducks, as Brandon McCullen, supported by fellow quicks Chris Sole and Safyaan Sharif, scythed through their top order. Brandon King was the only one in the top five to cross 20 as the Scotland trio kept pegging the batting team back. After a brief resistance, Shai Hope fell too, making it five down for 60.

Sole’s delivery to dismiss Kyle Mayers stood out: the off-stump went cartwheeling after the West Indies No.5 couldn’t block a length ball that straightened. Sole cheekily gave Mayers a send-off, waving him goodbye while running across him.

The flying stump even reached wicketkeeper Matt Cross, who proceeded to install it back in its place.

By the 21st over, they had lost six wickets, with Nicholas Pooran falling to Matt Watt.

The West Indies are on the brink of elimination, having lost to Netherlands in the Super Over in the previous game. For them, every game is a must-win going forward, including the Scotland clash, while also hoping that other scenarios go their way.
