After scoring a match-winning 62 off 43 balls and taking his team to victory in a run-chase of 173 against the Trinbago Knight Riders on September 5, Ayub was at it again in the clash against Barbados Royals today (September 10).
Batting first this time, Ayub started slowly. At five off 13 balls, his innings seemed to be going nowhere before he managed his first release shot. A length ball on his pads from Jason Holder was flicked nonchalantly over mid-wicket for six. That got things going for Ayub.
He hit two more sixes off his next eight deliveries, one against Kyle Mayers and one against Obed McCoy. From five off 13, Ayub managed to resurrect his innings to a more respectable-looking 30 off 21 by the end of the eighth over.

Roelof van der Merwe came onto bowl the 11th over of the innings. With the left-arm spinner’s ball turning into the left-handed Ayub’s hitting arc, it made things easier for him as he took full toll. The first ball was hit for four, and the last two were hit for sixes. All through the leg side.
With his second six off van der Merwe, Ayub reached his fifty off 32 balls. His last 19 balls had fetched 45 runs. He wasn’t done yet, though. He hit another six three balls later before handing an easy return catch to Carlos Brathwaite that ended his innings.
The Warriors finished on 181-9, 58 off which had come off the bat of Ayub, from just 35 balls, at a strike rate of 165.71.
