Watch: Ross Taylor capped off his Test career with an unlikely wicket off the last ball of his farewell game, picking up just his third scalp in 112 matches to conclude the Christchurch Test.

Called on to bowl his first Test over in nine years with Bangladesh nine down, Taylor sent down some gentle off-spin from over the wicket to No.11 Ebadot Hossain for the first two deliveries of the over, before switching his angle to come in from around the wicket.

The third delivery, bowled wide of the off stump, tempted Hossain into a wild slog, only for the ball to go straight up in the air, settling into the hands of a diving Tom Latham at short mid-wicket.

Taylor was mobbed by his teammates in no time, cheering and hugging him, with New Zealand having completed an innings win to level the series 1-1.

Skipper Latham later said: “I have never felt more pressure to ask Ross to bowl, and also for a catch!”

The last time Taylor took a wicket was in 2010, when he picked up the wickets of Harbhajan Singh and Sreesanth during the 2010 Ahmedabad Test to finish with figures of 4.4-2-4-2.

In recent memory, Muttiah Muralitharan and Glenn McGrath finished with a wicket off their respective last deliveries in Test cricket.

Taylor ends his Test career with 7,683 Test runs – the most for New Zealand in the format – at a healthy average of 44.66.
