The amusing incident came in the third innings of the game with England leading by 57 runs. Mohammed Shami beat Jonny Bairstow with the second ball of the 51st over, leading to an appeal as Pant claimed the ball. However, with the ball having missed bat by a distance, India’s inquiry was a half-hearted one, and Pant went from pleading with the umpire to bouncing up and down and sideways on his haunches, crossing Virat Kohli’s path at first slip and ending up face to face with Rohit Sharma.

The India opener gave Pant a bemused look, but plenty of others found the incident funny. Pant has made a habit of such moments. Against England earlier this year, he gagged after taking a shot of a mysterious liquid and howled strangely. He was also left searching for the ball in a comical moment after an Ollie Pope top edge. Against Australia before that, there was some relentless pep talk and another weird howl.
