Watch: Rishabh Pant has posted an update as he recovers from injury, with the wicketkeeper walking slowly in a swimming pool with the help of a crutch.

The India star was involved in a horrific car accident in late December 2022, and had to be pulled from a burning vehicle by passersby. While he was cleared of any life-threatening injuries, ligament damage in his knee meant that there was no timeframe on his return.

Pant has since missed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia and will be unavailable for the Indian Premier League, with him facing a race against time to be fit for the 2023 Cricket World Cup, to be held in India in October and November.

He gave fans a boost by posting a video of him walking slowly, turning, and walking back in a swimming pool, though with the aid of a crutch. He captioned the video: “Grateful for small thing, big things and everything in between. [sic]”

Before his injury, Pant was rated as one of the leading cricketers in the world, having played a key part in making India the best Test side of the era. With multiple Test hundreds in England, a Test century and an unbeaten 89 in Australia to cap off a pair of famous series win, a century in South Africa out of a total of under 200, and a host of other achievements asides, he is on his way to being perhaps Test cricket’s greatest ever wicketkeeper-bat.
