The left-hander was looking good before the incident, scoring 25 off 20 after coming in at 24-3. He had built a stable partnership with Kohli, adding 40 runs for the fourth wicket.
However, Pant was run out due to an unfortunate incident in the 12th over. The duo ran two quick runs against Sam Curran, before Jos Buttler tried to hit the stumps at the striker’s end, only to let the ball loose. With the ball in no-man’s land, Kohli called for a third run. Pant had overrun at his end and got the call late. However, he responded to his skipper, beginning his run after Kohli was almost at the other end. Unsurprisingly, he was caught short of his crease.
