Watch: After the crushing loss at Headingley, Virat Kohli was asked in the post-match press conference about about how India’s batsmen could have countered the English bowlers, with a journalist going on to lend some advice to the Indian skipper.
Day four at Headingley went awry for India as England’s bowlers skittled out the Indian side in the first session to complete a victory by an innings and 76 runs. With the batting collapse at the forefront of discussion, skipper Kohli walked in for the post-match press conference and was greeted with a question on the topic.
The journalist reminded Kohli that he had said that “England showed more intent with the bat” and asked if going forward “playing more on the back foot would be a part of the conversation”.
Kohli was noticeably unimpressed by the question and stated that he wasn’t sure how to answer the question before going on to ask the journalist how the team was supposed to play on the back-foot if “80 per cent of the balls are at length”.
Clarifying his statement, the journalist agreed that while England have been bowling full, and on the pads, “when there was an opportunity to go on the back foot, India seem to be missing out on a lot of runs”.
Kohli replied to the statement, that more or less appeared like advice, with a simple “okay, thanks” with his response sparking several reactions on social media.

Remarkable self-control by @imVkohli.
In a sense, it’s a classic Twitter moment. Person with zero knowledge & zero self-awareness tries to give random gyan to actual practitioner.pic.twitter.com/P3FoLVxllD
