Watch: South African teen sensation Dewald Brevis capped off a record-breaking Twenty20 hundred with a spectacular catch on the boundary ropes during the ongoing CSA T20 Challenge.
It was an out-and-out Brevis day in Potchefstroom. Opening for the Titans, 19-year-old Brevis pillaged the Knights bowling attack, smashing the highest T20 score ever by a South African player on his way to a 57-ball 162, and crushing a number of records in the process.
For many, a knock like that would have been enough to sit back for the rest of the game, but Brevis did not stop there. When the Knights emerged in pursuit of 272, he pulled off a sensational catch on the boundary ropes to dismiss Jacques Snyman to break the opening stand. It came within a week of another outrageous outfield catch by Brevis in the same tournament.
Snyman had raced to 28 off 13. At 72-0 in the seventh over, the Knights seemed on track, at least to some extent. At that point, Snyman tried to clear the deep mid-wicket ropes off off-spinner Simon Harmer. He could not get past Brevis, stationed at the boundary line. Brevis grabbed the ball with a full-stretch leap right by the edge of the ropes but instantly parried it back as the momentum tipped him to the other side of play.
Somehow, in the same motion, he managed to recover and put in a horizontal drive to collect the tossed-up ball again. He did extremely well to gather enough power to instantly fling himself again, ensuring that his back leg was in the air when he completed the catch, falling back into the field of play to complete the sensational effort.
You will really have to see it to believe it:
