Watch: With India 103-5 on day four of the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur, R Ashwin played on in bizarre fashion to a back-of-a-length ball from Kiwi quick Kyle Jamieson, before looking back in bemusement at his rearranged stumps.

The ball from Jamieson came in off the seam from wide of off-stump, luring Ashwin into a half-hearted back foot drive. The ball jagged in off the India No.7’s inside edge, squirted through his legs, and spun off the leg-stump rough back onto his wicket. It was an unlucky dismissal that brought to an end a valuable innings, having taken India from 51-5 to 103-6, leading New Zealand by 155 runs.

India would carry on to 234-7 before declaring, with Ashwin taking the wicket of Will Young before stumps.
