Watch: At Harare in 2014, Prosper Utseya celebrated a five-wicket haul for Zimbabwe against South Africa including a hat-trick.
Utseya opened his account with the wicket of Hashim Amla, stumped by Brendan Taylor on 66.
It was in his next over that he did the hat-trick. He started with Quinton de Kock for 76, caught brilliantly by Tendai Chatara as he attempted to reverse lap the ball over third.
With the next two balls, he took the wickets of Rilee Rossouw and David Miller. Rossouw was caught at slip by John Nyumbu before trapping Miller lbw to the delight of the bowler and his teammates who had crowded the bat.
Incidentally, this was the second ODI of Rossouw’s career. He had been run out for a golden duck on debut as well, in Bulawayo.
Utseya became the second Zimbabwean to do the hat-trick in ODIs, after Eddo Brandes against England in 1996/97. He fell to the floor in delight and was mobbed by the fielders.
He then took a fifth wicket to get rid of JP Duminy for just two and was the architect of a Proteas collapse. They had fallen from 142-0 to 231 all out.
South Africa did win the game in the end by 61 runs as they bowled Zimbabwe out for 170.
Utseya finished his career with an economy rate of 4.36, the sixth-best among men who had bowled at least as many balls in the 21st century.
