Watch: Binura Fernando rubbed salt on the wounds of Phil Salt with a cheeky celebration after dismissing him during an LPL game between Dambulla Giants and Kandy Warriors.
Kandy Warriors’ Binura Fernando had an interesting celebration lined up his sleeve after he dismissed Salt during an LPL encounter on Thursday. The last ball of the second over was a perfect yorker, which Salt was unable to get it away. The delivery ended up crashing onto his stumps, and as he was walking away, Fernando whipped out a Salt Bae celebration. The batter, who was quick to understand the comparison between his last name and the type of celebration, was left amused as he walked back to the pavilion for three off nine balls.
The Salt Bae celebration has gained popularity after Turkish chef Nusret Gökçe’s trademark flamboyant sprinkling of the seasoning, made famous through his Instagram account. The action was picked up by football players, who started mimicking his action to celebrate a goal, and has now caught on with cricketers as well if Fernando’s celebration is anything to go by.
Fernando made his Sri Lanka debut in 2015, playing two T20Is in that year, and has come back into the fold in 2021, adding eight more caps across ODIs and T20Is. Salt made his England debut against Pakistan earlier this year, impressing in trying circumstances, with the entirety of England’s first-choice squad ruled out de to Covid-19.
