Watch: Contorting your body to imitate Paul Adams‘ bowling action can be a hard task (why would you), but an upcoming Sri Lankan cricketer, with almost exactly the same stride and release, is turning heads on social media.
Kevin Koththigoda, the 22-year-old spinner from Galle, has set out to carve his own identity with his rather peculiar action. He might not be a well-known figure in global cricketing circles just yet but he’s already grabbing people’s attention, especially after his participation in the recent Abu Dhabi T10 league. Part of the Maratha Arabians squad, he featured in one game, and shared the dressing room with the likes of Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez and Laurie Evans during the course of the 2021 edition.
Koththigoda, who has already played first-class, List A and T20 cricket in Sri Lanka, averages 16.81 from 11 T20 games so far, having picked up as many wickets with a best of 3-25.
He did not make it to the final shortlist for the IPL 2021 auction this year, but with his success the nascent stages of his playing career, and the experienced he gained in T10 cricket, global visibility shouldn’t be far.
