Watch: Derbyshire’s Pat Brown paid a heartfelt tribute to Josh Baker, who tragically passed away at 20 last month.

On May 2, Worcestershire left-arm spinner Josh Baker died a fortnight before his 21st birthday on the fourth day of a match against the Somerset 2nd XI.

Seamer Pat Brown, Baker’s teammate at Worcestershire until 2023, made a three-year switch to Derbyshire starting with the 2024 season. He is yet to play in the County Championship this summer, but picked up 3-33 even as Derbyshire went down to Northamptonshire in the T20 Blast.

In his second match of the summer, against Leicestershire, Brown came on in the third over. Rishi Patel picked up two runs off his first ball, but edged the second to wicketkeeper Brooke Guest.

To celebrate the wicket, Brown raised his blue Derbyshire shirt to reveal a white shirt underneath, with the words "Baker 33" written across it – a tribute to his teammate during his Worcestershire days.

Brown finished with 2-41 and his captain Samit Patel with 2-21 as Peter Handscomb (64 in 32 balls) took Leicestershire posted 176-6. Samit then blasted a 32-ball 64 not out as Derbyshire won with five balls to spare.
