Watch: Pakistan leg-spinner Usama Mir shone on T20 Blast debut, producing a brisk 20-run cameo and a three-wicket haul to power Worcestershire to a win against Northamptonshire.
Electing to bat, Worcestershire found themselves in early trouble, losing two wickets inside the powerplay. Adam Hose’s fifty, though, kept them afloat and laid a solid foundation.
When Usama walked out to bat, Worcestershire had reached 174-6 after 18 overs. They needed to finish off their innings strongly, and Usama delivered with a seven-ball 20, which included a boundary and two sixes. The sixes were hit off Andrew Tye and David Willey.
While known more for his leg-breaks, Usama has a reputation of a big hitter. Not too long ago, he took 34 in an over in the 2023 Ghani Ramzan Tourney.
Usama then went on to bag three wickets, the pick of which was the delivery that dismissed Ricardo Vasconcelos. The ball pitched on a length on middle and off and skidded through. Vasconcelos tried to play the cut, but Usama’s slider it snuck past his bat and thudded into the top of off stump.
Usama’s contributions were vital as Worcestershire registered a 15-run victory at the County Ground in Northamptonshire. After a stellar debut, Worcestershire would be hoping that the leg-spinner can continue in a similar vein.
