Chamika Karunaratne took an astonishing, one-handed diving catch for Colombo Strikers against Kandy Falcons; however, his tremendous effort was adjudged not out by the TV umpire.

Sri Lanka all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne and his Colombo Strikers teammates thought that he had taken the catch of the tournament in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) earlier today (July 6) when he made considerable ground in the outfield and instinctively stuck his hand out to grasp a ball that was heading for a certain boundary.

Karunaratne was mobbed by his teammates, certain that his heroics had dismissed the dangerous Mohammad Haris for nine, but after much deliberation, TV umpire Prageeth Rambukwella decided that the catch had not been taken cleanly.

The point of contention was whether the ball was whether or not the ball had made contact with the outfield as Karunaratne fell to the ground with the ball in hand. After seeing the replay from multiple angles, Rambukwella concluded that the ball had indeed touched the ground before Karunaratne was in control of it.

Haris, who had reached the boundary ropes, sheepishly returned to the pitch to amass a further 47 runs before departing for an impressive 56 off 32 balls. It was the only fifty of innings, one that included four sixes including two back-to-back ones against Dunith Wellalage.

This divisive decision would have been more controversial had Haris' innings been a match-winning one. However, the Strikers eventually won by two runs, with skipper Thisara Perera successfully defending 20 in the final over, bowling to Angelo Mathews.
