Watch: Kieron Pollard, the non-striker, was peeved with the umpire not calling a wide in the CPL game between Trinbago Knight Riders and St Lucia Kings on Tuesday, and decided to stand at mid-wicket in protest.
The incident happened in the penultimate ball of the 19th over of Knight Riders’ innings when Tim Seifert received a very wide delivery outside off-stump by Wahab Riaz, who was bowling around the wicket. Seifert appeared to stretch to his fullest to reach the ball, but couldn’t even when he was on his knees, but the umpire denied a wide, infuriating Pollard at the non-striker’s end.
Pollard protested the decision, but when the umpire stood his ground despite the ball going well beyond the wide line, Pollard gave up and started walking towards mid-wicket in mute protest. He stationed himself there for a bit before taking a more regular spot near the non-striker’s end.
In 2015 in an IPL game, Pollard had pulled off another bizarre statement of protest when the umpires warned him for chirping too much. Then, the West Indies all-rounder taped up his mouth as a sign of protest against the umpires.
