Watch: Nikin Jose of India A was out after the ball hit his thigh pad against Pakistan Shaheens during the Emerging Teams Asia Cup final in 2023.
Pakistan Shaheens rode on Tayyab Tahir’s 71-ball 108 to post 352-8 after India A captain Yash Dhull opted to field at the 2023 ACC Men’s Emerging Teams final, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Saim Ayub (59 in 51 balls) and Sahibzada Farhan (65 in 62) added 121 in 17.2 overs before Tayyab took centrestage, hitting 12 fours and four sixes. He found support in Omair Yousuf (35 in 35 balls) and Mubasir Khan (35 in 47).
For India, Riyan Parag claimed 2-24 and Rajvardhan Hangargekar 2-48.
In response, Sai Sudharsan raced away to a 28-ball 29, adding 64 in 51 balls with Abhishek Sharma (61 in 51 balls). Karnataka batter Nikin Jose walked out at No.3, with scores of 41 not out, 53, and 17 under his belt in the ongoing tournament.
Jose played 14 balls for his 11. The 15th, from Mohammad Wasim Jr was just short of a length. Jose tried to pull and missed, but he had overestimated the bounce of the ball.
It went under his bat and brushed his thigh pad en route to wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris, and the umpire ruled him out. There was little doubt that Jose had missed the ball, and it looked too high for a leg-before.
Nevertheless, the umpire ruled him out – though it is not clear whether caught behind or lbw, with scorecards disagreeing on this front – and Jose had to walk back, for there is no DRS in this tournament.
Pakistan Shaheens went on to complete a sizeable victory.
