Watch: The MS Dhoni run-out from the 2015 Cricket World Cup semi-final that’s eerily similar to his dismissal from the CWC19 semi-final.
Every Indian cricket fan would probably remember the MS Dhoni run-out from the 2019 Cricket World Cup semi-final against New Zealand as one of the most heartbreaking moments in the sport’s history. Not only did it end India’s campaign at the tournament, but also became the former Indian skipper’s last international innings.
However, what many fans tend to forget is that Dhoni was dismissed in a similar fashion in the 2015 World Cup as well. His dismissal, once again, was the last nail in the coffin for India’s chances of making the final. Chasing a challenging 339-run target, India’s hopes, as they often do, relied on Dhoni in the last few overs of the game. The then India captain was batting on 65 and seemed set to do the unlikely once again.
However, a bullet throw from Glenn Maxwell from mid-wicket ended Dhoni’s innings, crushing Indian hearts. Ironically, India’s campaigns in the previous two World Cup ended with run-outs of the man who was the hero of their triumph in the 2011 tournament.
